16mm group releases new book
Wednesday, Jan. 18, 2012
For those who model English railroads in 14mm- to 16mm-to-the-foot scales, The Association of 16mm Narrow Gauge Modellers is an indispensable resource, which in recent weeks has gotten better. The group said this fall that it has revised its Handbook, a publication distributed to all members.
The 64-page book provides modelers with photos, plans and diagrams focusing on running garden railroads on either 32mm (1¼-inches) or 45mm (1¾-inches) track. The Handbook has been written by the group’s most experienced modelers and provides guidance on every aspect of the hobby, starting “from the ground up” — planning the line, surveying the area, building a base for the track, laying the track and “building the pointwork” (building switches or turnouts).

Hobby magazines thought lost to the sands of time have been digitized and will be made available for free to small-scale live steamers starting Jan. 1, 2012.
A trove of back issues of Steam in the Garden magazine was discovered earlier in 2011 and has been turned into digital files by Scott McDonald, since early 2011 a co-owner of the magazine.
